Did you know that Samuel De Champlain was the founder of Quebec, Canada in 1608?
Samuel de Champlain is from France. He was born in Brouage, France on August 13, 1574. In 1603, he traveled to America for the first time. Samuel de Champlain’s sponsors were the King and Queen of France. His main transportation was ship. He traveled across the Pacific Ocean many times, and the St. Lawrence River. Samuel de Champlain founded the city of Quebec in 1608. Samuel de Champlain convinced some men and woman to settle on the banks of the St. Lawrence river and these people became the founders of the New France, which is what we now call Canada.
Samuel de Champlain was a French explorer and cartographer best known for establishing and governing the settlements of New France and the city of Quebec. The routes that he took were the St. Lawrence River in 1608, Saguenay River in 1603, Lake Ontario in 1615, Cape Cod in 1606/1605, Port Royal in 1604, Lake Champlain in 1609, Lake Huron in 1615, and the Ottawa River in 1615.
Samuel de Champlain married Helen Brula, who was 13, which was 30 years his junior. He was 43 years old. His children were Hope, Faith, and Charity. His nationality was Canadian and French. In 1635, Champlain died in the city of Quebec on December 25. He died of a stroke and was 61 years old when he died.
