Francisco was born in Salamanca, Spain on the date of September 22, 1510. His full name is Francisco Vasquez de Coronado y Lujan. His journey began in 1540 when he set off planning to find valuables and riches. Coronado married a lady named Beatriz. He hoped to reach the seven cities of gold one day.
Though he searched in hope of gold, instead he found something magical and amazing. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado was known for discovering the great Grand Canyon. He never found the wealth and land that he searched for though. He also ventured to the great plains in Kansas. His journey was long and treacherous, though he discovered many great things . In 1544, he was found guilty of committing atrocities against Indians and was forced to work in a minor position` in New Mexico. Sadly, on September 22, 1554 at the young age of 44, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado ended his journey through life. Overall, Francisco will be remembered as a brave hero, but also a villain due to his atrocities against Native Americans. Highlights of his life include being the governor of New Spain and his and Beatriz’s eight children. Without his dare-devil heart, we would not know nearly as much as we do now about the Grand Canyon and the Kansas Plains. |
